Overview
Our client is seeking a
Senior FinOps Analyst / FinOps Manager
to lead cloud financial management, cost optimization, and financial accountability across engineering, product, and finance teams. This role is critical in ensuring cloud spend is
efficient, predictable, and aligned with business growth
.
The ideal candidate blends
strong financial acumen, deep cloud cost expertise, and cross-functional influence
, acting as a bridge between Finance, Engineering, Infrastructure, and Product teams.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Financial Management (FinOps)
Own end-to-end cloud cost management across AWS, Azure, and/or GCP environments.
Develop and maintain cloud cost models, budgets, and forecasts aligned with product and infrastructure roadmaps.
Monitor cloud spend, usage trends, and unit economics across services, teams, and environments.
Cost Optimization & Efficiency
Identify and execute cost optimization initiatives including:
Rightsizing compute, storage, and database resources
Reserved Instances (RI), Savings Plans, and Committed Use Discounts (CUDs)
Storage tiering and data lifecycle optimization
Idle resource detection and elimination
Quantify savings, track realized vs. projected benefits, and report outcomes.
Forecasting, Budgeting & Reporting
Build detailed cloud cost forecasts and scenario models (growth, scale, new product launches).
Partner with Finance to support annual budgeting, reforecasting, and variance analysis.
Develop dashboards and executive-ready reporting for:
Monthly cloud spend
Cost per product, customer, or environment
Unit economics and margin impact
Cross-Functional Partnership
Work closely with Engineering, Infrastructure, SRE, and Platform teams to embed cost-awareness into architecture and design decisions.
Partner with Product and Finance leaders to align cloud investment with revenue growth and customer value.
Enable teams with cost transparency and self-service reporting.
FinOps Governance & Best Practices
Establish FinOps governance models, tagging standards, and allocation methodologies.
Define policies for cost accountability, chargeback/showback, and budget ownership.
Promote FinOps best practices across the organization through education and enablement.
Tooling & Automation
Own and optimize FinOps tooling and platforms such as:
Cloud provider billing tools (AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management, GCP Billing)
Third-party FinOps platforms (Apptio Cloudability, Kubecost, Harness, Finout, CloudHealth)
Automate reporting, anomaly detection, and cost controls where possible.
Qualifications
6–10+ years of experience in cloud financial management, FinOps, FP&A, or cloud cost optimization roles.
Proven experience managing multi-million-dollar cloud budgets in SaaS or cloud-native environments.
Strong understanding of cloud pricing models, consumption-based billing, and cost drivers.
Technical & Cloud Expertise
Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud provider:
AWS (EC2, EKS, RDS, S3, Lambda, Savings Plans)
Azure (VMs, AKS, SQL, Blob Storage)
GCP (Compute Engine, GKE, BigQuery)
Familiarity with Kubernetes cost management (Kubecost or equivalent).
Strong SQL skills and experience working with large cost and usage datasets.
Experience building dashboards using tools such as Looker, Tableau, Power BI, or Mode.
Financial & Analytical Skills
Strong FP&A fundamentals: budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, unit economics.
Ability to translate technical usage data into financial insights and executive narratives.
Comfortable presenting complex financial and technical concepts to non-finance stakeholders.

FinOps Certified Practitioner (FOCP) or FinOps Certified Professional (FCP)
Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Finance or analytics certifications a plus
