## About the Role
This is a contract FinOps Analyst role based in Washington, DC and available remotely. The position supports cloud financial operations and governance across a multi-cloud environment, with primary focus on AWS and Microsoft Azure and some exposure to Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
The role exists to improve cloud spending visibility, strengthen financial controls, and help maximize the value of cloud investments. You will work closely with Cloud Engineering, Enterprise Architecture, Finance, and Application Development teams to support optimization, reporting, and governance across the cloud estate.
## Key Responsibilities
– Develop and run FinOps practices to improve cloud spend efficiency across AWS, Azure, and GCP.
– Review cloud usage trends to identify opportunities for cost reduction and better resource utilization.
– Investigate billing anomalies and partner with engineering and application teams to address financial risk.
– Support cloud governance by helping establish, implement, and maintain standards and best practices.
– Manage cloud financial processes including budgeting, forecasting, cost allocation, showback, and chargeback.
– Analyze cloud billing data and provide recommendations based on findings.
– Build dashboards and reports to present spend trends and optimization opportunities to stakeholders.
– Work across Finance, Enterprise Architecture, Cloud Solutions, and Development teams to promote financial accountability.
– Recommend cost-saving actions while maintaining operational efficiency and governance compliance.
– Stay informed on FinOps methods, cloud pricing models, and emerging cloud technologies.
## Required Skills
– Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Finance, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
– Experience in cloud financial operations, cloud governance, or FinOps.
– Strong working knowledge of AWS and Azure services, resource utilization, and pricing models.
– Experience with cloud cost optimization, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
– Knowledge of cloud billing analysis and cost allocation methods.
– Experience supporting or implementing cloud governance practices.
– Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
– Ability to manage multiple priorities while working with cross-functional teams.
## Preferred Skills
– FinOps Certified Practitioner certification.
– Exposure to Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
– Experience with cloud financial management tools such as Apptio, Cloudability, Azure Cost Management, and AWS Cost Explorer.
– Experience in large enterprise or multi-cloud environments.
– Knowledge of the FinOps Framework and cloud financial management best practices.
