## About the Role
The Cloud FinOps Engineer will join Smurfit WestRock’s Public Cloud Engineering team within the Cloud Center of Excellence in Atlanta, GA. This is a newly defined role focused on combining cloud technology knowledge with financial management to improve how cloud costs are tracked, allocated, and optimized across the organization.
The position is responsible for processing AWS accruals and month-end cloud charges, allocating usage-based costs to IT business partners and business units, and supporting cloud cost transparency across the enterprise. It also serves as a liaison between cloud consumers, Finance, Procurement, Operations, and Engineering to provide cost estimates, budget insights, and ongoing run-rate visibility.
The role will help build and operationalize FinOps practices, improve cloud cost governance, and support decision-making through reporting, forecasting, and analysis. It also contributes to training, standards, and enablement efforts that help teams become more self-sufficient in cloud cost reporting and awareness.
## Key Responsibilities
– Process AWS accruals and monthly cloud bill charges accurately and on time
– Allocate cloud costs by usage to IT business partners and business units
– Develop and maintain KPIs for real-time cost, consumption, and product-level visibility
– Create and deploy costing templates for product and service financial requirements
– Build self-service cloud cost reporting capabilities for product teams and end users
– Define and maintain cloud resource tagging strategies to support accountability for shared services
– Monitor budgets and overruns using tools and processes
– Calculate and allocate Reserved Instance and Savings Plan amortization values to the appropriate divisions
– Analyze business and usage trends to identify cost savings and cost avoidance opportunities
– Help define and evolve enterprise cloud cost management strategy
– Partner with Strategic Sourcing and Finance on cloud contract negotiations and hosting opportunities
– Evaluate and support adoption of cloud cost management and optimization tools
– Recommend cloud optimization practices that improve reliability, performance, and cost
– Support budgeting, forecasting, cost analytics, and optimization initiatives
– Work with Finance, Operations, and Engineering on efficiency and pricing-based cost reduction efforts
– Support project planning, architecture review, standards development, documentation, and training
– Develop and deliver cloud cost awareness training
## Required Skills
– Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Computer Science, relevant work experience, or equivalent military experience
– 4–8 years of overall IT experience
– 3+ years of enterprise cloud platform experience with Azure or AWS
– Experience with cloud infrastructure, services, and usage models
– Experience creating governance for cloud spend
– Experience with budgeting and forecasting
– Experience monitoring and reporting cloud spend
– Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
– Ability to manage multiple internal teams and project managers simultaneously
– Ability to prepare and deliver data-driven presentations for business partners
– Strong verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills
– Ability to explain complex technical topics clearly and concisely
– High proficiency in MS Excel
– Experience with traditional and Agile methodologies
