# Senior FinOps Engineer
## About the Role
This role supports an investment management organization in improving transparency, governance, and optimization of technology spend across cloud and infrastructure environments.
The position partners closely with engineering, platform, finance, and operations teams to strengthen financial accountability and improve how technology investments are planned and evaluated.
A key part of the role is helping build the reporting, allocation, automation, and governance capabilities that support more effective cost management across public cloud, on-premises infrastructure, and emerging workloads.
## Key Responsibilities
– Improve visibility into infrastructure and platform-related technology spend across public cloud and on-premises environments.
– Develop reporting, forecasting, allocation, and governance frameworks to support technology investment decisions.
– Work with technical and business stakeholders to improve cost awareness and operational efficiency.
– Identify infrastructure optimization opportunities through workload analysis, resource utilization reviews, lifecycle management, and capacity planning.
– Support financial allocation models and improve ownership, tagging, and attribution standards across technology platforms.
– Analyze spending trends, anomalies, and variances, and communicate recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
– Help engineering teams plan infrastructure costs and evaluate tradeoffs across architecture, deployment models, and platform choices.
– Build automation, integrations, and internal tooling to improve reporting, governance, and financial operations processes.
– Support cost management for AI, data platforms, and accelerated compute resources.
– Contribute to the maturity of FinOps practices, standards, and operating frameworks.
## Required Skills
– Experience in cloud, infrastructure, platform engineering, FinOps, or technology financial management.
– Strong understanding of AWS and/or Azure environments.
– Exposure to hybrid infrastructure, virtualization technologies, storage platforms, and enterprise computing environments.
– Experience with technology cost reporting, financial analysis, optimization initiatives, and governance programs.
– Strong SQL and Python skills for analysis, automation, and reporting.
– Experience building dashboards and executive reporting using modern analytics and visualization tools.
– Familiarity with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, cost allocation, and financial accountability frameworks.
– Ability to evaluate infrastructure decisions through the lens of cost, performance, scalability, and reliability.
## Preferred Skills
– Exposure to cloud financial management or FinOps methodologies.
– Experience with cloud spend optimization tools and financial management platforms.
– Knowledge of infrastructure lifecycle planning, capacity management, and enterprise technology investments.
– Experience supporting cloud commitments, vendor negotiations, consumption planning, or financial modeling.
– Understanding of cost drivers related to AI, machine learning, data platforms, or GPU-intensive workloads.
