This role sits within the Cloud Business Office team and focuses on improving the value of AWS cloud investments. It combines software engineering, data, and FinOps to deliver better visibility, governance, and cost optimization across AWS environments.
The core of the role is building automated, scalable solutions rather than relying on manual analysis. You will help teams make cost-conscious decisions by creating tools, pipelines, dashboards, and controls that support cloud financial management.
You will work closely with Engineering, Finance, and Cloud Platform teams to build cost awareness into development and operations. The goal is to strengthen accountability, improve decision-making, and support cost-efficient cloud usage.
## Key Responsibilities
– Build automated solutions to monitor, analyze, and optimize AWS spend across accounts and services.
– Implement cost-saving measures such as rightsizing, Savings Plans, Reserved Instances, storage tiering, and scheduling.
– Partner with engineering teams to design cost-aware architectures.
– Develop FinOps tooling, APIs, and data pipelines that improve cost visibility and governance.
– Automate cost allocation, tagging enforcement, and chargeback/showback models.
– Integrate AWS billing data into centralized data platforms for analytics and reporting.
– Build dashboards and reporting solutions using QuickSight, Tableau, Power BI, or similar tools.
– Develop forecasting models and anomaly detection capabilities for cloud spend.
– Enable self-service cost insights for engineering and business teams.
– Establish cloud cost governance frameworks, tagging standards, and policies.
– Embed FinOps practices into CI/CD pipelines and engineering workflows.
– Partner with Finance to align cloud usage with budgets and forecasts.
– Educate teams on AWS cost management and FinOps principles.
## Required Skills
– Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
– AWS certification such as Solutions Architect or DevOps Engineer.
– 3–5+ years of experience in FinOps, cloud engineering, or cloud cost optimization.
– Strong hands-on experience with AWS services, pricing models, and billing architecture.
– Experience with cost tools such as AWS Cost Explorer, Harness CCM, Apptio, CloudCheckr, or similar.
– Proficiency with Python, SQL, Power BI, or Excel for data analysis and visualization.
– Experience building data pipelines, dashboards, and financial models.
– Strong understanding of cloud architecture and distributed systems.
– Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
## Preferred Skills
– Background in software engineering or platform engineering.
– Experience with AWS-native services such as Cost & Usage Reports and QuickSight.
– Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform and CloudFormation.
– Experience implementing automated governance and policy enforcement.
– FinOps certification such as FinOps Practitioner.
