## About the Role
This Lead FinOps Engineer role is based in Bengaluru, Kochi, or Trivandrum. The position exists to improve cloud cost efficiency, strengthen governance, and automate cost management across a complex multi-cloud environment.
The role supports a global enterprise software business serving the aviation, travel, transportation, hospitality, and logistics sectors. It works closely with engineering, finance, product, customer success, cloud governance, and leadership teams to increase cloud spend accountability and deliver measurable savings.
The wider scope includes advancing FinOps maturity across the Inform, Optimize, and Operate phases, while improving visibility into cloud usage, allocation, and optimization opportunities.
## Key Responsibilities
– Lead cloud cost optimization efforts across AWS, Azure, and GCP.
– Identify and deliver savings across compute, storage, databases, networking, Kubernetes, and managed services.
– Analyze cloud usage patterns and recommend rightsizing, scheduling, and architecture improvements.
– Track, validate, and report realized savings from optimization work.
– Build and maintain dashboards, reports, and analytics for cloud spend and utilization.
– Improve cost attribution across products, customers, and cloud platforms.
– Investigate spend anomalies and work with relevant teams to determine root causes and corrective actions.
– Define and enforce tagging standards and cloud governance controls.
– Support showback and chargeback models.
– Monitor compliance with FinOps policies, standards, and governance requirements.
– Create automation for idle resources, orphaned assets, rightsizing opportunities, and anomaly detection.
– Develop scripts, workflows, and integrations using cloud APIs, Infrastructure-as-Code tools, and automation frameworks.
– Improve self-service tooling and automated optimization recommendations.
– Partner with Product, Finance, Customer Success, Cloud Engineering, and Leadership on cost reviews and governance discussions.
– Present cloud cost insights and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
– Contribute to FinOps playbooks, standards, KPIs, and operating procedures.
## Required Skills
– Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
– 7+ years of experience in Cloud Engineering, Cloud Operations, Platform Engineering, Cloud Governance, FinOps, or a related area.
– At least 3 years of hands-on experience in cloud cost optimization and FinOps practices.
– Strong knowledge of AWS services, pricing models, billing constructs, and cost optimization techniques.
– Proven experience delivering measurable cloud cost optimization outcomes.
– Strong understanding of cloud cost allocation, tagging strategies, and governance frameworks.
– Experience with cloud cost management platforms such as CloudHealth, Cloudability, Apptio, CloudZero, Astuto OneLens, or similar tools.
– Hands-on experience with SQL, Power BI, Tableau, or other reporting and analytics tools.
– Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret large datasets.
– Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
## Preferred Skills
– FinOps Certified Practitioner (FOCP) or equivalent certification.
– AWS, Azure, or GCP certifications.
– Experience managing multi-cloud environments.
– Hands-on experience with Terraform, Python, Cloud Custodian, or similar automation frameworks.
– Experience with Kubernetes cost optimization and container cost management.
– Familiarity with ServiceNow and IT Financial Management (ITFM) processes.
– Experience in SaaS or enterprise software organizations.
– Knowledge of customer-level cost allocation and hosting cost management.
– Azure and/or GCP cost management and governance experience.
