## About the Role
TOPdesk is looking for a FinOps Engineer to bring greater visibility, control, and accountability to technology spend across cloud, SaaS, licensing, on-premises infrastructure, and managed services. The role exists because costs are spread across multiple areas, and the business wants to move from reactive spend management to a more proactive, data-driven approach.
This is a broad FinOps role that goes beyond cloud cost management. You will help shape budgeting, forecasting, allocation, showback/chargeback, software asset management, and optimisation governance, turning complex consumption data into clear financial insight.
You will work closely with Technology and Finance stakeholders, adapting your communication to different audiences and helping teams make cost-aware decisions. The focus is on owning the models, understanding the cost drivers, and driving the optimisation actions that follow.
## Key Responsibilities
– Own budgeting, forecasting, and spend governance across cloud, SaaS, software licensing, infrastructure, and managed services.
– Track actual spend against budget, explain variances, and flag financial risks or unexpected increases early.
– Build and maintain cost allocation models, including showback, chargeback, ownership, tagging, and allocation standards.
– Improve visibility into technology consumption through dashboards, reporting, and financial analysis.
– Lead cost-optimisation work across cloud platforms, SaaS, software licensing, and on-premises infrastructure.
– Support software asset management, including licence utilisation, renewals, compliance, and audit readiness.
– Provide analysis for vendor reviews, renewal planning, and commercial discussions.
– Run regular cost reviews with stakeholders and strengthen technology financial governance over time.
– Investigate unusual spend patterns, identify affected stakeholders, and help restore spend control.
## Required Skills
– 3+ years of experience in FinOps, IT Financial Management, Technology Asset Management, or Technology Finance.
– Experience with budgeting, forecasting, analysis, financial reporting, and cost allocation.
– Good understanding of cloud platforms and cloud pricing models.
– Strong analytical skills with the ability to turn data into actionable insight.
– Hands-on data skills, including SQL or similar analysis methods.
– Comfort building repeatable analytical or reporting mechanisms, not just one-off spreadsheets.
– Experience working with multiple stakeholders across technology and business functions.
– Clear communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
## Preferred Skills
– FinOps Certified Practitioner (FOCP) and/or FinOps Certified Engineer (FCE).
– Experience with Azure Cost Management, Archera, or similar tools.
– Knowledge of software asset management and licensing models.
– Experience supporting vendor management and contract renewal processes.
