We are building the robust database infrastructure and data platform services that power the next generation of Sectra’s medical imaging and healthcare solutions. This role is for a database/data engineer who thrives on learning, adapts quickly to new challenges, and cares deeply about building reliable, secure, and performant database systems that enable all our product teams to deliver better solutions for healthcare.
You will design and deliver production-grade database solutions and data infrastructure while leveraging modern AI tools and techniques to accelerate development and enhance system capabilities. Your work ensures that whether it’s query optimization, data migration, backup strategies, or performance tuning, our database services are rock-solid, efficient, and enable seamless data integration across the entire Sectra ecosystem.
What You Will Do
Design, build, and maintain high-quality SQL databases and data infrastructure used across all Sectra product areas
Apply AI tools (e.g., code assistants, database optimization tools) responsibly to increase velocity without compromising data integrity, security, or cost
Collaborate with product teams, architects, and end-users to translate data requirements into robust, scalable database solutions
Own database projects end-to-end: schema design, implementation, testing, monitoring, documentation, and deployment
Implement and uphold strong database engineering practices: query optimization, indexing strategies, backup and recovery procedures, performance profiling, reliability standards
Work with modern distributed database systems, cloud data infrastructure, and observability patterns (query monitoring, logging, tracing, SRE practices)
Administer and optimize SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or other enterprise databases, including system configuration, performance tuning, scripting and troubleshooting
Continuously evaluate new database technologies, tools, and AI capabilities; share knowledge across the team and the broader organization
Core Abilities
Strong computer science fundamentals: data structures/algorithms, relational database theory, concurrency, API design, distributed systems, data architecture
Expert-level SQL proficiency: complex query writing, stored procedure development, performance analysis, indexing strategies, transaction management
Proficiency in database administration and optimization: query tuning, execution plan analysis, backup/recovery, replication, and high-availability configurations
Strong experience with one or more SQL database platforms (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL) and modern database tooling
Experience with cloud services, containerization, and CI/CD for database deployments (AWS RDS/Azure SQL/GCP Cloud SQL, Docker, Kubernetes)
Reliability and observability mindset: automated testing, monitoring database performance (query metrics/logs/traces), capacity planning, and SRE practices
Security and privacy literacy: secure data handling, encryption, access control, compliance with healthcare data regulations, infrastructure security
Curiosity and learning agility; ability to adapt to new domains, tools, and AI workflows
Nice to have
Experience building data platforms or database services that support multiple downstream consumers
Strong foundation in system design, scalability, and cost optimization (FinOps) for database workloads
Advanced database expertise: partitioning strategies, sharding, advanced security hardening, configuration management
Experience with data warehousing, ETL pipelines, or analytics infrastructure
Familiarity with healthcare IT standards and constraints (HL7, DICOM, FHIR, HIPAA compliance, data handling, interoperability)
Experience with database migration tools, version control for schemas, or infrastructure-as-code approaches
In addition to these abilities, we also want you to:
Have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree within engineering, IT or similar with a strong academic record
Have a strong interest in new and innovative technology and software development
Thrive in a fast-paced technological environment
We consider it a great asset if you:
Have experience of software development in agile technologies
Speak more languages than those required above
Have interests besides school/work, such as sports, sports leader, music, horseback riding, singing or flying for example
Don’t like to sit in unnecessary meetings, we prefer to think and develop software
Other information:
The goal is for the right candidate to start as soon as possible.
We recruit on an ongoing basis. This means we encourage you to apply or contact us as soon as possible.
Depending on the role, a mandatory background security screening might be performed as part of the recruitment process at Sectra. Please reach out to the responsible hiring team if you have any questions regarding this. Learn more about our recruitment process here.
