# Data & FinOps Engineer
## About the Role
This role supports an active client engagement on Google Cloud Platform and sits at the intersection of data engineering and cloud financial operations. Its purpose is to build the logging, retention, attribution, and spend-visibility layers that keep a multi-tenant platform compliant, traceable, and cost-efficient.
You will own infrastructure that supports audit logging, immutable storage, billing visibility, and cost controls. The work is cross-functional and involves regular collaboration with data, product, and engineering stakeholders.
This is a fully remote position for candidates based in Europe or Africa. A minimum six-hour overlap with core business hours, primarily aligned with Central or Eastern U.S. time zones, is required.
## Key Responsibilities
– Design and maintain BigQuery audit datasets with compliance-focused schemas, immutability settings, and access controls.
– Build Cloud Audit Log pipelines that continuously route MCP inputs and outputs into structured audit stores.
– Develop Cloud Billing export pipelines and Looker Studio dashboards for spend visibility, trend analysis, and forecasting.
– Define FinOps tagging and labeling standards across GCP resources to support tenant-, project-, and user-level cost attribution.
– Configure Cloud Monitoring alerts for quota exhaustion and cost anomalies, including notification and escalation logic.
– Build metadata pipelines that feed archive management systems and support lineage, retention, and lifecycle enforcement.
– Design and maintain ETL pipelines with strong data quality, consistency, performance, and reliability.
– Partner with data, product, and engineering teams to support operational and compliance requirements.
## Required Skills
– 7+ years of experience as a Data Engineer.
– Proven experience building production data pipelines.
– Strong hands-on experience with BigQuery.
– Experience with schema design and modeling for compliance use cases.
– Experience configuring Object Lock and immutability for log retention.
– Experience processing GCP Cloud Audit Logs through structured pipelines.
– Understanding of log sinks, filtering, and continuous delivery patterns for MCP or equivalent workloads.
– Experience implementing Cloud Billing exports.
– Experience defining FinOps tagging and labeling taxonomies.
– Experience building Looker Studio dashboards for tenant-, project-, and user-level cost attribution.
– Experience configuring Cloud Monitoring alerting for quota and cost anomalies.
– Familiarity with metadata pipeline engineering for archive management systems.
– Strong Python and advanced SQL skills.
– Experience with data quality checks, monitoring, and CI/CD for data workflows.
– Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
## Preferred Skills
– Airflow, Kafka, or similar orchestration and messaging tools.
– Experience with data governance, DLP policies, or privacy compliance standards.
– Experience with Looker beyond Looker Studio.
– Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer certification.
– FinOps Certified Practitioner certification.
