## About the Role
This Senior Cloud FinOps Analyst role is focused on solving complex cloud discount-management challenges across AWS and Azure. The position sits at the intersection of cloud billing, financial analysis, and rate optimization, with an emphasis on understanding why commitments are underutilized and determining the right next action based on the data.
You will work closely with product, engineering, operations, and customer teams to improve automated multi-cloud cost optimization processes. The role is designed for someone who can go beyond reporting to investigate billing behavior, discount application, eligible spend, and operational edge cases.
The opportunity is fully remote within the United States and includes a base salary of $100,000–$135,000 DOE, plus benefits and a long-term incentive program.
## Key Responsibilities
– Analyze cloud cost, usage, coverage, utilization, and billing data to identify optimization opportunities, anomalies, and commitment risk.
– Lead AWS and Azure rate optimization efforts, including Reservations and Savings Plans for Compute.
– Investigate underutilized commitments by reviewing workload changes, account structure, discount application, eligible spend, pricing, and operational edge cases.
– Validate rates, discounts, financial impact, and commitment decisions using spreadsheets and data analysis.
– Partner with product, engineering, operations, and customer teams to solve FinOps challenges and improve automation.
– Contribute to more scalable processes for autonomous multi-cloud discount management.
## Required Skills
– Hands-on experience in FinOps, cloud billing, cloud cost optimization, or complex financial and technical operations.
– Strong experience with Azure Reservations and Azure Savings Plans for Compute.
– Solid knowledge of AWS EC2 discount instruments, especially Compute Savings Plans and Convertible Reserved Instances.
– Clear understanding of the difference between coverage and utilization, including the factors that can affect each.
– Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills.
– Comfort with ad hoc data analysis, rate calculations, and financial tradeoff evaluation.
– Strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and the judgment to look beyond surface-level explanations.
– Ownership, curiosity, candor, humility, and a growth mindset.
## Preferred Skills
– Experience with AWS Organizations, consolidated billing, multi-account billing, or GCP CUD.
– Experience with SQL, BI tools, financial modeling, or cloud cost-management tooling.
– Particular expertise with Azure.
– Experience solving a cloud discount-management problem through an unconventional or creative approach that improved commitment utilization or reduced risk.
