## About the Role
The AWS FinOps Engineer is responsible for improving cloud financial management, cost optimization, and financial accountability across AWS environments. This role works closely with Cloud Engineering, DevOps, Finance, procurement, and business stakeholders to support efficient cloud investment decisions and align spending with business priorities.
The position combines AWS technical expertise, automation and coding experience, and practical FinOps knowledge. It is focused on applying the Inform, Optimize, and Operate lifecycle to strengthen governance, improve visibility into cloud spend, and support better planning and decision-making.
In addition to day-to-day optimization work, the role contributes to architecture reviews and ongoing cost review sessions. The goal is to help teams build solutions that are cost-efficient, scalable, reliable, and accountable.
## Key Responsibilities
– Implement and mature FinOps practices across AWS environments using the Inform, Optimize, and Operate framework.
– Analyze AWS spend trends and recommend actions to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
– Develop cloud cost reporting, dashboards, forecasts, and executive-level insights.
– Manage AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Organizations, AWS Budgets, Cost & Usage Reports (CUR), Savings Plans, and Reserved Instances.
– Build automated solutions for cost monitoring, anomaly detection, chargeback/showback, and governance.
– Partner with application, platform, and business teams to identify optimization opportunities.
– Participate in architecture reviews to support cost efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
– Drive continuous improvement through automation, operational excellence, and cloud cost accountability.
– Develop forecasts, budgets, unit-cost measures, and scenario analyses tied to business outcomes.
– Evaluate and administer AWS pricing-model strategies and commitment-based discounts.
– Monitor utilization and coverage, and manage financial risk within governance processes.
– Automate recurring FinOps controls and workflows using infrastructure as code, APIs, scripts, event-driven services, and CI/CD integrations.
– Facilitate regular cost review and optimization working sessions with technical, finance, procurement, and business stakeholders.
– Maintain a prioritized backlog of actions, owners, expected benefits, and realized outcomes.
## Required Skills
– Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
– 3+ years of AWS cloud experience.
– 3+ years of experience in Cloud FinOps, Cloud Financial Management, Cloud Engineering, DevOps, or a related discipline.
– Experience managing costs in enterprise AWS environments.
– Strong understanding of cloud economics, budgeting, forecasting, and cost allocation methodologies.

– Experience supporting cloud migration, modernization, and optimization initiatives.
– Ability to communicate technical and financial concepts effectively to business and executive stakeholders.

## FinOps Responsibilities

– Automate recurring FinOps controls, including budget alerts, anomaly notifications, rightsizing recommendations, resource scheduling controls, and policy checks.
– Lead recurring cost review and optimization sessions with stakeholders.
– Maintain action tracking for ownership, expected savings, and realized results.
