# Job Description: VP Technology – Finance
## About the Role
In this critical leadership position at Crawford & Company, the VP of Technology – Finance will act as a senior financial partner to the global technology organization. The role is designed to ensure that our technology investments align closely with overall business strategy, driving optimal returns while maintaining financial integrity. This position collaborates closely with the CFO and CIO to enhance financial planning, budgeting, and capital allocation across our technology portfolio.
The VP will play a vital role in enabling smart decision-making regarding technology expenditures, focusing on balancing cost optimization with business value. The individual will provide strategic insights into financial performance and risks, ensuring investments deliver measurable business outcomes, and driving the overall mission of financial transparency within the organization.
## Key Responsibilities
– **Financial Strategy & Planning**
– Oversee the annual budget, quarterly forecasts, and long-range financial plan for the global IT function.
– Collaborate with IT leadership to align spending with strategic priorities and provide variance analysis on operating and capital expenditures.
– **Business Partnership**
– Serve as the primary finance liaison between the CIO and IT leadership.
– Translate technology initiatives into financial impacts and support project prioritization based on business value and strategic goals.
– **Cloud Financial Management**
– Lead financial strategies related to cloud investments, including cost optimization and transparency.
– Evaluate CapEx vs. OpEx trade-offs and drive scalable cloud economics aligned with capital allocation priorities.
– **Investment Governance**
– Review and challenge business cases for major IT initiatives and monitor project financial performance.
– Ensure disciplined capital allocation and adherence to financial governance best practices.
– **Cost Optimization**
– Identify cost-saving opportunities and enhance the efficiency of the IT cost structure.
– Drive accountability for spend management and productivity improvements across IT functions.
– **Vendor Oversight**
– Provide financial support for IT vendor negotiations and evaluate total cost of ownership.
– Work with procurement and legal teams to assess financial risks associated with vendor agreements.
– **Reporting & Communication**
– Develop and present financial reporting packages for executive leadership, focusing on KPIs related to spend and productivity.
– Summarize financial risks and opportunities for board and committee communications.
– **Process Improvement**
– Enhance IT finance processes, reporting discipline, and support finance transformation initiatives.
– Promote continuous improvement and accountability in financial management practices.
## Required Skills
– Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Technology/Engineering.
– Minimum of 15 years of progressive finance and technology experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
– Extensive experience in financial planning, investment analysis, and capital management.
– Proven ability to effectively influence executive stakeholders and drive strategic outcomes.
– Strong analytical, communication, project management, and organizational skills.
– Proven experience in handling multiple projects and meeting tight deadlines.
## Preferred Skills
– MBA or CFA preferred.
– Background in transformation programs (AI, Cloud, or large-scale modernization) is advantageous.
– Prior experience with enterprise financial systems such as Oracle EPM or PeopleSoft.
