# Information Technology Financial Operations (FinOps) Manager

**Location:** Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India

## About the Role

This role is responsible for building and leading the technology cost management and financial governance function. The focus is on improving visibility, accountability, forecasting, optimization, and value realization across cloud, SaaS, licensing, infrastructure, data platforms, and other IT spend categories.

The position works across IT, finance, procurement, engineering, application ownership, and business teams to ensure technology spend is planned, monitored, and aligned with business priorities. It also supports executive reporting, governance, and documentation for technology financial control.

Depending on the operating model, the role typically reports into senior IT or IT finance leadership such as the Head of IT, Director of Technology Operations, CIO, or Head of IT Finance.

## Key Responsibilities

– Build and run the IT FinOps operating model, including governance, policies, processes, and reporting cadence.
– Review procurement decision methods, including depreciation approaches and buy-versus-lease evaluations.
– Track, analyze, and report spend across cloud, SaaS, infrastructure, licensing, data platforms, and related IT services.
– Support budgeting, forecasting, accruals, chargeback, showback, and cost allocation with finance teams.
– Work with engineering, infrastructure, application, and operations teams to identify cost-saving opportunities without affecting performance, security, resilience, or business outcomes.
– Define and implement tagging, cost center mapping, resource ownership, and consumption tracking standards.
– Create dashboards, reports, and executive summaries covering spend trends, budget variance, utilization, waste, and savings opportunities.
– Drive optimization actions such as rightsizing, reserved instances or savings plans, storage optimization, lifecycle management, license rationalization, and unused resource removal.
– Set and monitor KPIs, savings targets, cost avoidance metrics, unit economics, and value realization measures.
– Support vendor management and procurement in contract reviews, commitment planning, renewal preparation, and commercial negotiations.
– Promote cost awareness and financial accountability through training, communication, and stakeholder engagement.
– Evaluate and implement FinOps tools, automation, alerts, anomaly detection, and reporting capabilities.
– Prepare management updates, steering committee materials, and audit-ready documentation for IT financial governance.
– Review internal controls related to hardware, software assets, and license key management.
– Support vendor management and risk assessment activities.

## Required Skills

– Bachelor’s or master’s degree in finance.
– 12+ years of experience in IT financial operations, cloud operations, technology finance, IT governance, procurement, or related functions.
– 3+ years of experience in cloud cost management, IT financial management, FinOps, vendor cost governance, or technology spend optimization.
– Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure.
– Experience with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, financial reporting, cost allocation, and management reporting.
– Strong understanding of IT service models, infrastructure, SaaS licensing, cloud consumption, and technology procurement processes.
– Strong analytical, financial, and problem-solving skills.
– Ability to translate complex technology usage and cost data into business insights.
– Excellent stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
– Strong communication skills, including executive reporting and presentation.
– Good understanding of cloud architecture, infrastructure services, application hosting, and operational cost drivers.
– Commercial mindset with the ability to identify savings, cost avoidance, and value improvements.
– Process-oriented approach with the ability to define governance models, controls, and repeatable operating procedures.
– Ability to manage competing priorities and drive outcomes across multiple teams.

## Preferred Skills

– FinOps Certified Practitioner or FinOps Certified Professional certification.
– Experience with cloud cost management tools, enterprise reporting tools, Power BI, Excel, ServiceNow, ERP systems, or procurement platforms.
– Knowledge of ITIL, IT governance, risk management, audit requirements, and technology control frameworks.
– MBA, finance certification, project management certification, or an equivalent professional qualification.

– Establish cloud and technology spend governance.
– Improve cost visibility across IT services and platforms.
– Support forecasting, budgeting, accruals, chargeback, showback, and cost allocation.
– Drive cost optimization across cloud and infrastructure resources.
– Implement tagging, ownership, and consumption tracking standards.
– Build reporting for spend trends, budget variance, savings, and waste.
– Track savings targets, cost avoidance, unit economics, and value realization.
– Support commitments, renewals, and commercial negotiations with vendors.
– Strengthen financial accountability across IT and business teams.
– Use tools, automation, alerts, and anomaly detection to improve control.
