## About the Role
OpenAI’s Strategic Finance organization supports long-term planning, resource allocation, and growth across the business. This role sits within the Applications Technology Strategic Finance team, which partners with Product and Engineering on product scaling, new product launches, revenue forecasting, and performance management across the product portfolio. The team also works with Infrastructure Engineering on infrastructure and compute planning, margin targets, and headcount planning.
As Director of Product Finance, Infrastructure and Compute Demand, you will be the primary finance partner to the AGI Deployment (Applications) Infrastructure Engineering organization. The role focuses on connecting product usage, compute demand, infrastructure costs, and margin outcomes, while building the financial frameworks that guide decisions across product and infrastructure teams.
The position is ideally based in San Francisco HQ, with NYC and Seattle also considered. It follows a hybrid schedule of three days per week in the office and includes relocation assistance for new employees.
## Key Responsibilities
– Serve as the main finance partner to the AGI Deployment (Applications) Infrastructure Engineering organization.
– Own the consolidated forecast for compute and infrastructure demand across products.
– Partner with capacity planning and supply teams to support compute planning and allocation decisions.
– Analyze the relationship between customer experience, growth, profitability, latency, throughput, and token usage.
– Build frameworks to assess return on investment for compute and infrastructure spend across products, features, and user segments.
– Use financial insights to inform investment and optimization decisions.
– Create a recurring cross-functional forum for compute economics across product, infrastructure, capacity planning, and finance.
– Prepare materials for executive and Board-level discussions.
– Lead and mentor a small team while remaining hands-on in analysis and execution.
## Required Skills
– 12+ years of experience in investment banking, consulting, or buy-side investing, combined with operating experience at a fast-paced, scaling company.
– Strong judgment in evaluating opportunities and risks in financial analysis.
– Ability to turn complex financial data into clear, actionable insights.
– Strong communication skills, including the ability to present data-driven narratives to leadership.
– High attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting and analysis.
– Familiarity with business models and metrics relevant to OpenAI.
– Interest in technology and artificial intelligence.
– Extensive hands-on use of AI.
## FinOps Responsibilities
– Forecast compute and infrastructure demand for products.
– Connect technical usage drivers to margin performance.
– Evaluate ROI on compute and infrastructure investments.
– Support decisions around allocation, utilization, and margin tradeoffs.
– Coordinate cross-functional discussions on compute economics.
