# Job Description: VP of Finance
## About the Role
As the inaugural VP of Finance at AirGarage, you will play a crucial role in developing a high-impact finance function that supports the company’s rapid growth. This position goes beyond mere financial reporting; you will serve as a strategic partner to the leadership team, collaborating directly with product, operations, sales, and engineering. Your expertise will help shape business decisions, leading to enhanced planning and execution as the company scales.
The role involves maintaining a forward-looking financial model that directly reflects unit economics across multiple locations. You will oversee the evolution of our financial systems from QuickBooks to a more scalable ERP solution and manage key aspects such as cap table management and vendor negotiations. By streamlining financial operations, you will empower other leaders in the organization, enabling them to focus on product and sales initiatives.
## Key Responsibilities
– **Financial Modeling:** Develop and refine a driver-based, forward-looking financial model that includes scenario analysis and aligns with real-world operations.
– **Unit Economics Oversight:** Monitor and enhance margins and P&L at the location level, identifying opportunities for operational efficiency in collaboration with the Operations team.
– **Dashboard Creation:** Build reliable, user-friendly budget vs. actuals and KPI dashboards for daily use by leadership.
– **Finance Stack Upgrade:** Lead the transition from QuickBooks to a scalable ERP, ensuring clean financial records and efficient close processes.
– **Cap Table Management:** Oversee equity operations, ensuring timely and accurate updates on option grants and board approvals.
– **Investor Relations:** Prepare regular reports that align financial data with business narratives for investors and board members.
– **Vendor Management:** Identify significant cost areas, renegotiate contracts, and standardize commercial terms.
– **Compensation and Planning:** Partner with leadership on compensation philosophy and headcount planning.
– **Legal and G&A Oversight:** Manage commercial contract reviews, insurance, and office operations, gradually transitioning to in-house oversight.
– **Capital Strategy:** Maintain cash flow forecasts and evaluate banking relationships to support financial stability.
## Required Skills
– **Experience:** Proven track record as a key finance leader at high-growth, venture-backed companies, with a strong emphasis on building financial systems from scratch.
– **Hands-On Operation:** Proficient in both strategic and detail-oriented tasks, able to navigate between high-level strategy and ground-level execution.
– **Financial Acumen:** Strong skills in financial modeling, scenario analysis, and a deep understanding of unit economics.
– **Systems Knowledge:** Experience transitioning from QuickBooks to ERP and designing effective financial processes.
– **Communication Skills:** Ability to translate complex data into clear narratives for a variety of stakeholders, including executives and investors.
– **Commercial Insight:** Skilled in managing vendor relationships and negotiating contracts to optimize unit economics.
– **Proactive Approach:** An ability to initiate improvements in systems and processes without waiting for direction.
## Preferred Skills
– Experience with multi-location and revenue-share business models.
– Familiarity with hardware and inventory management.
– Prior experience in legal and general administrative functions beyond core finance tasks.
