## About the Role

This Senior AWS Cloud Cost Optimization Specialist role is focused on improving cloud financial efficiency, governance, and resource utilization across an AWS environment for a customer. The position combines AWS expertise with FinOps practices to help engineering teams reduce unnecessary spend while protecting application performance, security, and reliability.

You will work closely with engineering, DevOps, architecture, and finance stakeholders to identify savings opportunities, put governance controls in place, and improve visibility into cloud usage and cost trends. The role is designed to drive measurable cost improvement without compromising operational standards.

## Key Responsibilities

– Review AWS spend patterns and identify opportunities to reduce cost.
– Define and implement optimization strategies across compute, storage, networking, databases, and managed services.
– Create dashboards and reports covering usage, trends, forecasts, and savings opportunities.
– Establish governance policies, tagging standards, and chargeback/showback approaches.
– Optimize AWS services including EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, RDS, S3, DynamoDB, CloudFront, and related services for both cost and performance.
– Assess Reserved Instances, Savings Plans, and Spot Instances where suitable.
– Detect and remove idle, underused, or orphaned resources.
– Work with engineering teams to embed cost considerations into architecture and application design.
– Partner with DevOps teams to automate optimization through Infrastructure as Code and policy controls.
– Track budgets, cost anomalies, and utilization patterns using AWS-native and third-party tools.
– Present recommendations, savings analysis, and executive-level reporting to technical and business audiences.
– Promote FinOps practices across engineering teams.

## Required Skills

– Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Finance, or equivalent practical experience.
– 5+ years of hands-on experience managing AWS environments and optimizing cloud costs in enterprise settings.
– Understanding of AWS pricing models and billing.
– Experience with AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Budgets, AWS Cost and Usage Reports (CUR), and Cost Anomaly Detection.
– Knowledge of Reserved Instances, Savings Plans, Spot Instances, and storage lifecycle optimization.
– Proficiency with Terraform or CloudFormation.
– Strong analytical ability to work with large datasets and identify optimization opportunities.
– Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
– English proficiency at B2 level or above.

## Preferred Skills

– Experience implementing FinOps frameworks and cloud financial management practices.
– Familiarity with CloudHealth, Apptio Cloudability, Flexera, or ProsperOps.
– Experience with AWS Organizations and multi-account governance.
– Knowledge of Kubernetes (EKS) cost optimization and serverless architecture optimization.
– Proficiency in Python, SQL, QuickSight, Power BI, or Tableau for reporting and automation.
– Experience working in Agile environments.
– AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate or Professional.
