PURPOSE
The primary role of the FinOps Practitioner is to facilitate ongoing monitoring, analysis, and optimisation of cloud expenditures across all cloud platforms. This involves implementing and overseeing FinOps practices within the organisation, such as developing cost-visibility dashboards, forecasting usage, and identifying savings opportunities, such as rightsizing and reserved instances. As a FinOps Practitioner, your responsibility is to optimise cloud financial operations by bridging the gap between cloud engineers, finance, procurement, technology, business, and product teams. The role ensures that cloud expenditures support business objectives, promote cost transparency, and foster accountability across departments for efficient cloud utilisation. This cross-functional coordination is vital for maintaining cost transparency and cultivating a culture of financial accountability in cloud usage through collaboration and shared accountability for cloud usage decisions.

Your key responsibilities include:
Cloud Financial Management
Track and assess cloud spending on platforms like AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform.
Develop and maintain dashboards and reports for cost visibility and forecasting
Ensure alignment of accountability to cloud users by reporting spend vs. budget at granular levels
Identify cost-saving opportunities through rightsizing, reserved instances, and usage optimisation
Assist in making data-driven decisions that optimise cloud spending, ensuring the efficient use of resources and contributing to overall cost management strategies.
Communicate consumption trends and financial impacts to stakeholders in clear, business terms.
Stakeholder Engagement
Facilitate collaboration with Cloud engineers, finance, technology, business and product teams to align cloud usage within budgetary constraints
Educate teams on cloud cost implications and FinOps best practices
Act as a liaison between finance and technical teams to ensure accurate chargebacks and allocations
Governance & Compliance
Ensure that policies for cloud budget controls, tagging standards, and resource accountability are in place.
Ensure compliance with internal financial controls and external regulatory requirements
Support audits and provide documentation on cloud financial practices
Strategic Planning & Optimisation
Contribute to cloud strategy by providing insights into cost trends and ROI
Participate in vendor negotiations and contract reviews for cloud services
Support the development of FinOps maturity models and continuous improvement initiatives
QUALIFICATION / KNOWLEDGE
Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Computer Science, or related field
FinOps Certified Practitioner (preferred)
AWS Cloud practitioner or Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900)
Experience
5+ years in cloud financial management, IT finance, or cloud operations
Hands-on experience with cloud billing tools (e.g., AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management)
Familiarity with cloud architecture and services
