# FinOps Manager
## About the Role
This is a full-time remote role for U.S.-based candidates and reports to the Chief Technology Officer. It is focused on shaping the financial strategy for cloud infrastructure and improving how cloud spend is planned, tracked, and governed.
You will work closely with Engineering, Product, Finance, and Operations to build stronger cloud cost accountability while supporting fast-moving technical teams. The role blends financial analysis, cloud architecture awareness, operational discipline, and cross-functional leadership.
The goal is to turn cloud usage into clear business insight, create scalable FinOps practices, and help teams make cost-aware decisions without slowing innovation.
## Key Responsibilities
– Own cloud financial management for AWS and other cloud environments.
– Build forecasting, budgeting, and cost allocation models that improve visibility and predictability.
– Lead cloud cost optimization and governance efforts while protecting reliability and performance.
– Put policies, budgets, alerts, and controls in place to strengthen financial accountability.
– Partner with engineering leaders to align technical decisions with financial impact.
– Produce dashboards, KPIs, and reporting on spend, utilization, efficiency, and unit economics.
– Support annual planning, monthly infrastructure budget reviews, chargebacks, and billing accuracy.
– Manage cloud vendor relationships and support purchasing decisions such as Reserved Instances, Savings Plans, and enterprise agreements.
– Develop FinOps processes, documentation, automation, and guardrails that scale.
– Promote FinOps best practices across the organization and evaluate tools that improve visibility and efficiency.
## FinOps Responsibilities
– Cloud spend forecasting and cost predictability
– Cost allocation across products, teams, and business units
– Budgeting, alerts, policies, and governance controls
– Rightsizing, commitment management, storage optimization, and resource lifecycle management
– Chargebacks, billing accuracy, and cost reporting
– Executive reporting on spend, utilization, efficiency, and infrastructure trends
– Vendor management and cloud procurement strategy
– FinOps process design, automation, and governance framework development
– Staying current with FinOps Foundation guidance and cloud optimization practices
## Required Skills
– 5+ years of experience in FinOps, Cloud Financial Management, FP&A supporting Engineering, Cloud Infrastructure, or a related technical finance role
– Experience managing cloud costs in AWS
– Strong understanding of cloud architecture, infrastructure services, and cloud cost drivers
– Experience with cloud cost management tools such as CloudHealth, Apptio Cloudability, Finout, ProsperOps, AWS Cost Explorer, or similar platforms
– Strong analytical skills with advanced Excel and experience using SQL, Power BI, Tableau, or similar reporting tools
– Experience partnering directly with engineering teams on cloud cost optimization
– Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and financial reporting
– Excellent communication skills across technical and financial audiences
– Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
## Preferred Skills
– FinOps Certified Practitioner or FinOps Certified Professional certification
– Experience with Kubernetes or containerized workloads
– Experience with large-scale SaaS platforms
– Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code, including Terraform and CloudFormation
– Experience in high-growth SaaS, aerospace, defense, or government contracting environments
– Experience with Datadog, Grafana, Snowflake, or cloud observability platforms
– Experience implementing automated cloud governance and cost optimization workflows
