FinOps Engineer
FinOps focuses on managing and optimizing infrastructure/Infrastructure costs, requiring skills in financial analysis, infrastructure/Infrastructure resource utilization, and cost optimization strategies, often involving collaboration between finance and engineering teams
Mandatory skillsets
Infrastructure Cost Optimization:
Analyzing Infrastructure usage patterns, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and implementing strategies to reduce and control Infrastructure expenditures.
Financial Modeling and Analysis:
Developing and maintaining financial models to forecast Infrastructure costs, tracking spending against budgets, and providing insights into cost trends and anomalies.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
Partnering with finance, engineering, and other stakeholders to communicate the cost implications of technical decisions and foster a cost-conscious culture.
Reporting and Communication:
Preparing reports and dashboards to track Infrastructure spending and communicate cost optimization results to stakeholders.
FinOps Implementation and Advocacy:
Driving the adoption of FinOps principles and best practices, educating teams on cost-saving strategies, and promoting a data-first approach to Infrastructure financial management.
Budgeting:
Setting and maintaining budgets for Infrastructure infrastructure, ensuring organizations are not overspending and are getting the most value from their investment.
Cost Transparency:
Providing clear visibility into Infrastructure spending and usage, making it easier to budget, forecast, and make data-driven decisions.
Resource Optimization:
Ensuring that the right resources are used at the right time, avoiding overprovisioning and under provisioning.
Financial Accountability:
Tracking Infrastructure spending and usage in real time, giving teams clear visibility into their financial landscape.
Cost Reduction:
Identifying areas of waste and negotiating better deals with Infrastructure providers to reduce costs.
