# FinOps Analyst

## About the Role

This role is focused on managing and optimizing AWS cloud infrastructure spend. The main objective is to build cloud cost intelligence from the ground up and help improve product profitability through better visibility and control of infrastructure costs.

You will work closely with engineering, DevOps, product, and business analysis stakeholders to review cloud billing data, investigate cost drivers, and turn usage insights into practical actions. The position is hands-on and centered on identifying inefficiencies, improving allocation, and supporting more disciplined cloud spending.

## Key Responsibilities

– Review monthly AWS billing data to identify spikes, anomalies, and architectural inefficiencies.
– Investigate unexpected spend with engineering teams and drive accountability for cost changes.
– Build, enforce, and maintain a global tagging policy for cost allocation across environments, business units, and components.
– Manage AWS Savings Plans and Reserved Instances to maximize discounts while avoiding overcommitment.
– Work with the DevOps team to identify and remove orphaned resources, unused volumes, and idle staging or development environments.
– Partner with product and business analysts to connect infrastructure costs to product revenue and long-term profitability.

## Required Skills

– Strong engineering background, ideally from a System Administrator, DevOps, QA Automation, or Technical Support Engineer role.
– Practical experience with AWS cost tracking tools, including AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Budgets, and Cost and Usage Report (CUR).
– Solid understanding of core AWS services such as EC2, EKS/ECS, RDS, S3, and networking, including how they are billed.
– Strong data manipulation skills and the ability to write custom queries for detailed infrastructure spend analysis.
– Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex cloud metrics to both technical and business stakeholders.
– A strong interest in data analysis and cloud cost efficiency.

## Preferred Skills

– Experience with Kubecost for container cost allocation in EKS.
– Hands-on experience with Amazon Athena and SQL for analyzing raw AWS Cost and Usage Reports (CUR).
– FinOps Certified Practitioner (FCP) or a similar FinOps Foundation certification.
– Experience in regulated FinTech or SaaS environments, including familiarity with PCI DSS compliance and strict security boundaries.

## FinOps Responsibilities
