# FinOps Analyst
## About the Role
WEX is enhancing its FinOps practice and is seeking a FinOps Analyst to ensure financial accountability and transparency regarding cloud expenditure. This role bridges engineering, finance, and business strategy, enabling effective monitoring of cloud-related costs.
In this position, you will serve as a liaison between technical engineers and financial stakeholders, transforming raw billing and usage data into actionable insights. Your ability to interpret invoices and usage data will support informed decision-making across teams regarding resource deployment, sizing, and budgeting.
Your main focus will be on delivering financial and usage data to stakeholders through our cloud cost optimization platform, FinOpsly, and internal tools such as Google Sheets and Excel.
## Key Responsibilities
– **Cost Reporting & Analysis**: Prepare monthly reports and presentations summarizing cloud spending and trends for stakeholders in engineering, finance, and executive teams.
– **Ad-hoc Cost Analysis**: Address targeted inquiries from application owners, architects, and finance partners regarding specific workloads or accounts.
– **Optimization Recommendations**: Identify and present optimization opportunities, including insights from FinOpsly and your own analyses (e.g., rightsizing, idle resource cleanup).
– **Commitment & Reservation Management**: Manage resource reservations (e.g., Reserved Instances, Savings Plans) and track savings as well as utilization rates.
– **Anomaly Detection & Tracking**: Monitor spending patterns, investigate anomalies, and communicate findings to relevant teams.
– **Budget Maintenance**: Keep cloud budgets and forecasts updated as organizational structures evolve.
– **Tooling Administration**: Oversee the FinOpsly platform including user access, business mappings, and alert configurations.
– **Stakeholder Engagement**: Facilitate regular meetings with account administrators and financial owners to review spending and promote accountability.
– **Tagging & Allocation Hygiene**: Collaborate with engineering teams to enhance tagging compliance and accuracy in cost allocation.
## Required Skills
– Minimum of 2 years of experience in financial analysis, data analysis, or cloud operations.
– Advanced skills in Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and conditional logic.
– Ability to synthesize large datasets into clear summaries and actionable recommendations.
– Strong written and verbal communication skills for presenting to both technical and non-technical audiences.
– Experience managing multiple concurrent requests and working amidst ambiguity.
– Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Information Systems, Economics, Data Analytics, or a related field.
## Preferred Qualifications
– Experience with cloud cost management platforms (e.g., FinOpsly, CloudHealth, AWS Cost Explorer).
– Familiarity with public cloud billing mechanisms across platforms like AWS, Azure, and GCP.
– Knowledge of enterprise cloud commitment structures and consumption tracking.
– Experience with dashboarding and visualization tools (e.g., Looker, Grafana, Tableau).
– Basic SQL or scripting knowledge for data extraction.
– FinOps Certified Practitioner certification or willingness to earn it within six months.
