# Data & FinOps Engineer
## About the Role
This is a current opening on an active client project and is fully remote for candidates based in Latin America. The role requires at least six hours of overlap with core business hours, which are primarily aligned with Pacific, Central, or Eastern U.S. time zones.
As a Data & FinOps Engineer, you will own the platform data, logging, and cloud cost-management layer on GCP. The focus is on keeping a multi-tenant environment compliant, traceable, and cost-efficient through immutable audit storage, billing visibility, and cost attribution.
You will work with data, product, and engineering stakeholders to deliver reliable pipelines and reporting. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until July 26, 2026, and feedback is expected by August 3, 2026.
## Key Responsibilities
– Design and maintain BigQuery audit datasets, including schema design, immutable retention, and access controls for compliance use cases.
– Build Cloud Audit Log pipelines that stream MCP inputs and outputs into structured, queryable audit stores for security, compliance, and operational review.
– Create Cloud Billing export pipelines and Looker Studio dashboards for real-time spend visibility, trend analysis, and budget forecasting.
– Implement GCP tagging and labeling standards to attribute spend by tenant, project, and user for chargeback, showback, and optimization.
– Configure Cloud Monitoring alerts for quota exhaustion and cost anomalies so teams are notified before limits or budget thresholds are reached.
– Build metadata workflows that feed archive management systems and support lineage, retention schedules, and lifecycle policy enforcement.
– Design, build, and maintain ETL pipelines with strong data quality, consistency, performance, and reliability.
– Partner with data, product, and engineering stakeholders to deliver infrastructure that supports operational and compliance needs.
## Required Skills
– 7+ years of experience as a Data Engineer.
– Production experience building data pipelines.
– Strong hands-on experience with BigQuery, including audit dataset design and compliance-focused schema modeling.
– Experience with Object Lock / immutability configuration for legally defensible log retention.
– Experience building and operating GCP Cloud Audit Log pipelines, including log sink design, filtering, and continuous delivery patterns for MCP or similar workloads.
– Experience implementing Cloud Billing exports, tagging/labeling taxonomies, and Looker Studio dashboards with tenant-, project-, and user-level cost attribution.
– Experience setting up quota-exhaustion and cost-anomaly alerting in Cloud Monitoring.
– Familiarity with metadata pipeline workflows that feed archive management systems, including retention schedule automation and lifecycle policy enforcement.
– Strong Python skills and advanced SQL skills.
– Experience with data quality checks, monitoring, and CI/CD for data workflows.
– Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
## Preferred Skills
– Airflow, Kafka, or similar orchestration and messaging tools.
– Data governance, DLP policies, or privacy compliance standards.
– Experience with Looker for more advanced BI and cost reporting.
– Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer certification.
– FinOps Certified Practitioner certification.

## Why You Might Be Interested
This role combines data engineering with FinOps in a way that touches compliance, auditability, and cloud spend management. You would own key parts of the GCP data and logging stack, including immutable audit storage, billing exports, and reporting. The scope includes pipeline engineering, governance, and close collaboration with data, product, and engineering teams. It may suit engineers who want direct ownership of infrastructure with both operational and financial impact.
