# AI Operations Specialist
## About the Role
This role is focused on managing and optimizing AI-related spend across projects, products, and platforms. Its purpose is to make AI usage more transparent, efficient, and financially sustainable through analysis, stakeholder support, and governance.
You will work closely with developers, data scientists, AI users, platform teams, and Finance to understand how AI services are consumed, where costs are created, and how usage can be improved. The role also connects with existing FinOps practitioners who oversee broader infrastructure cost management in Azure and on-premise environments.
The position is designed for someone who can link technical usage patterns to financial outcomes and turn complex consumption data into practical actions.
## Key Responsibilities
– Advise project, product, and platform teams on cost-efficient and sustainable use of AI services, models, and infrastructure.
– Track AI spend in detail, including API calls, token usage, model runs, and infrastructure consumption.
– Build and maintain dashboards, reporting, and forecasting models for AI workload growth, spend trends, and budget usage.
– Identify savings opportunities through model right-sizing, improved caching, and better usage patterns.
– Monitor AI usage across native and third-party cloud cost management and observability platforms.
– Investigate unusual consumption patterns, determine root causes, and work with developers and AI users on corrective actions.
– Support planning, forecasting, and budgeting for AI initiatives.
– Contribute to governance, standards, KPIs, and reporting for AI-related spend.
– Act as the link between data scientists, engineers, product teams, and Finance.
– Promote FinOps best practices for AI across the organization.
– Collaborate with FinOps practitioners managing broader infrastructure costs, including Azure and on-premise environments.
## Required Skills
– 2–3+ years of experience in cloud cost management, program management, IT financial operations, or a similar role.
– Working knowledge of modern AI and ML ecosystems, including AWS SageMaker, Bedrock, Azure AI Services, and Azure OpenAI.
– Experience with cost observability and monitoring tools.
– Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret usage data, identify anomalies, and recommend actions.
– Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
– Ability to translate technical consumption data into clear financial narratives.
