# Cloud Cost Optimization Engineer (FinOps)

## About the Role
This role focuses on improving cloud cost efficiency and financial governance across a portfolio of SaaS and hosted platforms. The position requires strong FinOps capability and hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure across IBM Cloud Classic, IBM Cloud VPC Gen2, AWS, and Azure.
You will work closely with SRE, DevOps, and Engineering teams to identify optimization opportunities, improve architectural efficiency, and support cost-aware decision-making. A key part of the role is to reduce cloud spend without affecting SLAs, reliability, or performance.
The broader objective is to build sustainable FinOps practices, strengthen visibility into cloud consumption, and support measurable annual cost reduction.
## Key Responsibilities
– Analyze cloud usage, billing, and consumption patterns across multiple products.
– Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities across compute, storage, networking, and underutilized resources.
– Support migration from IBM Cloud Classic to VPC Gen2 architecture.
– Apply rightsizing, autoscaling, and storage tier optimization strategies.
– Work with SRE, DevOps, and Engineering teams to improve infrastructure efficiency.
– Implement and manage FinOps practices, including cost allocation, tagging, and budget tracking.
– Build dashboards and reports for cost trends, forecasting, and realized savings.
– Review logs and usage data to identify inefficiencies.
– Ensure optimization efforts do not negatively affect SLAs, reliability, or performance.
– Drive continuous improvement toward a 10–15% annual cloud cost reduction target.
## Required Skills
– 9+ years of experience.
– Hands-on experience with **IBM Cloud Classic** and **IBM Cloud VPC Gen2**.
– Strong experience with **AWS and/or Azure**.
– Solid understanding of cloud architecture, pricing models, and cloud cost drivers.
– Experience in cloud cost analysis, optimization, forecasting, and reporting.
– Knowledge of autoscaling, containerization, and distributed systems.
– Experience with monitoring and logging tools.
– Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills.
– Scripting experience in **Python** and **Shell**.
– **FinOps Certified Practitioner** certification.
– Experience with **Kubernetes/OpenShift** cost optimization.
– Experience with **Terraform**, **Ansible**, and infrastructure as code.
– Experience with cloud cost management tools.
– Experience optimizing database costs for **Db2**, **PostgreSQL**, and **MySQL**.
– Experience with SaaS and multi-tenant architecture.
– Strong ownership of cost optimization outcomes.
– Ability to balance cost and reliability trade-offs.

– Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, IT, engineering, or a related field.
