# Data & FinOps Engineer
## About the Role
Lumenalta is hiring a Data & FinOps Engineer for an active GCP platform engagement. This position combines data engineering and cloud financial operations to support a multi-tenant environment with strong requirements for compliance, traceability, and cost control.
The role focuses on building the audit logging, billing, monitoring, and metadata foundations needed for real-time visibility and defensible retention. Your work will help ensure the platform remains observable, compliant, and financially accountable.
You will collaborate with data, product, and engineering stakeholders to deliver infrastructure that supports both operational and compliance needs. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis; the role is open until July 12, 2026, and feedback is expected by July 20, 2026.
## Key Responsibilities
– Design and maintain BigQuery audit datasets with compliant schema design, immutable retention settings, and access controls.
– Build and operate Cloud Audit Log pipelines that route inputs and outputs into structured audit stores.
– Develop Cloud Billing export pipelines and Looker Studio dashboards for spend visibility, trend analysis, and budget forecasting.
– Implement tagging and labeling standards across GCP resources to support tenant-, project-, and user-level cost attribution, chargeback, and showback.
– Configure Cloud Monitoring alerts for quota limits and cost anomalies, including notifications and escalation paths.
– Build metadata pipeline workflows that feed archive management systems and support lineage, retention, and lifecycle policy enforcement.
– Design, build, and maintain ETL pipelines with a focus on data quality, reliability, consistency, and performance.
– Work with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver data infrastructure that meets operational and compliance requirements.
## Required Skills
– 7+ years of experience as a Data Engineer.
– Production experience building data pipelines.
– Experience with cloud cost management and audit/compliance infrastructure.
– Strong hands-on experience with BigQuery, including audit dataset design, schema modeling for compliance use cases, and immutability configuration for log retention.
– Experience routing and processing GCP Cloud Audit Logs through structured pipelines, including log sink design, filtering, and continuous delivery patterns for MCP or similar workloads.
– Proven experience with Cloud Billing exports, FinOps tagging/labeling taxonomies, and Looker Studio dashboards for cost attribution.
– Experience setting up quota-exhaustion and cost-anomaly alerting in Cloud Monitoring for multi-tenant environments.
– Familiarity with metadata pipeline engineering into archive management systems, including lifecycle policy enforcement and retention schedule automation.
– Strong proficiency in Python.
– Advanced SQL skills for large datasets in BigQuery and related GCP data services.
– Experience implementing data quality checks, monitoring, and CI/CD pipelines for data workflows.
– Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
## Preferred Skills
– Experience with Airflow, Kafka, or similar orchestration and messaging tools.
– Familiarity with data governance, DLP policies, or privacy compliance standards.
– Exposure to Looker for more advanced BI and cost reporting.
– Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer certification.
– FinOps Certified Practitioner certification.
