We have partnered with a high-growth, VC-backed marketplace scale-up transforming its sector. With £3m in revenue and over £30m in GMV, the business has firmly moved into a scale-up. And with strong venture backing, the next phase of growth is already underway. As they scale, their finance function sits at the heart of the operation, managing complex fund flows, commission structures and high-volume transactions.

This is a pivotal hire and they’re looking for a commercially minded, hands-on Head of Finance to take full ownership of the function and build the financial infrastructure that will support their next phase of growth.

This is an ideal step-up opportunity for a high-performing Financial Controller or Finance Manager ready to lead a department and operate as the financial backbone of a scaling business.

What you’ll do
Oversee high-volume, complex invoicing across ‘Deduct at Source’ (DAS) and ‘Deduct at Conclusion’ (DAC) contracts, ensuring zero revenue leakage
Manage cash flow rigorously, reconciling Client Money (funds owed to venues) against commission revenue
Deliver accurate month-end reporting, management accounts and board packs, clearly articulating GMV vs Net Revenue
Partner with Operations to resolve booking amendments, disputes and cancellations impacting invoicing
Act as the internal product owner for finance systems
Work closely with Engineering to automate reconciliation processes and reduce manual intervention
Improve processes so finance scales efficiently alongside the platform
Manage and mentor an existing part-qualified Finance Manager, supporting progression to full CIMA qualification
Work alongside a fractional CFO on fundraising due diligence, annual budgeting and long-term financial strategy

Experience required
ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified with 3+ years’ post-qualification experience
Experience within a high-volume transactional environment (SaaS, Marketplace, eCommerce or Recruitment strongly preferred)
Strong understanding of GMV vs Revenue mechanics
Comfortable with modern finance stacks (e.g. Xero and automated AP/AR tools) and confident collaborating with developers
A “FinOps” mindset, focused on building systems that automate and improve themselves
Adaptable and resilient, able to move seamlessly between strategic work and operational problem-solving
