# Cloud FinOps Engineer
## About the Role
The Cloud FinOps Engineer is tasked with enhancing cloud financial management practices across key enterprise platforms, including AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). This position serves as a crucial link between Finance and various engineering teams, ensuring that cloud resources are utilized efficiently, governed appropriately, and aligned with the organization’s financial objectives.
In this role, you will take charge of providing deep financial insights into cloud expenses, creating cost optimization strategies, and leading budgeting and forecasting efforts. Your work will promote a culture of cost awareness while facilitating innovation and driving business growth through responsible cloud adoption.
## Key Responsibilities
– **Cloud Financial Management**
– Monitor and analyze cloud expenditures across AWS, Azure, and OCI.
– Develop and maintain models for cloud cost allocation, chargeback, and showback.
– Prepare monthly financial reports, variance analyses, and executive dashboards.
– Facilitate annual budget planning and ongoing forecasting of cloud spending.
– Identify consumption trends and pinpoint opportunities for cost reduction.
– **Cost Optimization**
– Detect underutilized, idle, or oversized cloud resources.
– Recommend and implement initiatives such as:
– Rightsizing computing resources
– Storage lifecycle optimization
– Resource scheduling and automation
– Managing reserved capacity and savings plans
– Quantify the financial impacts and savings resulting from optimization efforts.
– Document and report cost savings achieved through FinOps initiatives.
– **Service & Operational Support**
– Oversee cloud infrastructure service requests.
– Prioritize and manage the resolution of cloud-related incidents and operational issues.
– Collaborate with Cloud Engineering, Application, and vendor teams to ensure timely issue resolution.
– Provide cost analysis for cloud service requests and assess the financial impact of upgrades and changes.
– Maintain documentation and standard operating procedures for cloud financial operations.
– **Governance & Compliance**
– Establish and enforce cloud tagging and cost attribution standards.
– Partner with platform teams to promote financial accountability across cloud resources.
– Support Cloud Governance initiatives and develop financial management policies.
– **Reporting & Analytics**
– Create dashboards and reports utilizing tools such as Power BI, Excel, and native cloud tools.
– Analyze cost drivers, consumption patterns, and forecasting models.
– Report on key performance indicators (KPIs) for cloud spending and optimization.
– **Business Partnership**
– Collaborate with Finance teams during budgeting and forecasting cycles.
– Provide guidance to application owners on cloud cost implications.
– Assist in total cost of ownership (TCO) assessments for cloud projects.
– **Process Improvement & Automation**
– Automate cost data collection and reporting processes.
– Enhance cost visibility through tagging and self-service reporting tools.
– Contribute to the organization’s FinOps maturity and Cloud Operating Model through continuous improvement initiatives.
## Required Skills
– Strong experience in cloud financial management, particularly with AWS, Azure, and OCI.
– Proficient in financial reporting and budgeting processes.
– Ability to analyze complex data and produce actionable insights.
– Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
– Experience with tools for cost analysis and optimization.
## Preferred Skills
– Familiarity with cost management tools like Cloud Health.
– Experience in creating dashboards or reports using Power BI or similar platforms.
– Knowledge of cloud governance frameworks and standards.
