# FinOps Engineer
## About the Role
This role sits within the Cloud Operations organization and focuses on improving financial accountability and cost efficiency across cloud platforms. Its core purpose is to increase visibility into cloud spend while supporting cost-effective provisioning and maintaining engineering agility.
The position works across Finance, Product, and Engineering to strengthen budgeting discipline, cost transparency, and governance. It also involves managing cloud and software vendor relationships, as well as handling purchase orders and invoice processing.
A significant part of the role is helping technical teams adopt FinOps practices through observability, automation, and training. The outcome is better cloud cost control and more informed decision-making across the business.
## Key Responsibilities
– Build and deliver a FinOps roadmap aligned with business goals.
– Define governance policies for resource usage, provisioning, and budget approvals.
– Partner with Finance, Product, and Engineering to improve cost visibility and budgeting discipline.
– Manage relationships with cloud providers and software suppliers, including purchase orders and invoice processing.
– Design a FinOps observability platform to track cloud spend and usage.
– Integrate cloud cost management tools into the SDLC.
– Establish and monitor KPIs for cloud cost efficiency and optimization.
– Implement controls for instance rightsizing, provisioning, and decommissioning unused resources.
– Lead automation initiatives that improve cost efficiency across cloud environments.
– Promote FinOps practices and deliver training to improve cost awareness and financial literacy.
## Required Skills
– Proven experience in FinOps, Cloud Operations, or Cloud Financial Management.
– Strong understanding of cloud platforms, including AWS, Azure, and GCP, and their cost models.
– Experience with cost management tools.
– Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
– Ability to design governance frameworks and implement automation for cost optimization.
## Preferred Skills
– FinOps Certified Practitioner, or a similar certification.
– Background in DevOps, SRE, or Cloud Architecture.
– Familiarity with budgeting and financial processes in large organizations.
