# Cloud FinOps Lead

## About the Role

This role is responsible for building and applying a cloud cost management framework across public cloud environments, with a strong focus on AWS and Azure. The main goal is to improve cost control, surface optimization opportunities, and support decisions that reduce cloud spend.

A key part of the role is developing cloud-agnostic approaches that can distinguish critical from non-critical workloads and produce recommendations that accelerate savings. The position also involves adopting current AWS cost-saving strategies and turning them into practical controls and processes.

You will work closely with application owners, Finance, IS, and business stakeholders to understand usage patterns, improve reporting, and support cost-effective decisions. The role also requires active engagement with wider IS and business communities as a visible representative of IT initiatives.

## Key Responsibilities

– Monitor AWS cloud spend to identify trends, inefficiencies, and savings opportunities.
– Develop and apply cost optimization measures, including rightsizing, reserved instances, savings plans, and removal of unused resources.
– Review AWS resource usage to support efficient allocation and alignment with cost objectives.
– Assess pricing options such as on-demand, spot instances, and reserved instances based on workload requirements.
– Produce cost reports, forecasts, and recommendations for stakeholders.
– Define and enforce cloud cost governance policies and best practices.
– Establish cloud cost KPIs and track performance against agreed benchmarks.
– Configure and use AWS tools and third-party solutions to support cost management.
– Partner with application owners, Finance, IS, and business teams to improve cloud usage efficiency.
– Stay current with AWS features, cloud cost tools, and industry practices.

## Required Skills

– 10+ years of experience with one or more public or private cloud platforms, such as AWS or Azure.
– Experience with capacity forecasting, cloud cost optimization, financial reporting, and workflow management in a large service operations environment.
– Familiarity with monitoring and reporting tools and APIs.
– Strong understanding of cloud providers, platform configurations, and workload usage or consumption patterns.
– Good understanding of cloud billing, including the impact of usage patterns on TCO.
– Ability to build reporting schemes and metrics that provide strong control over cloud usage and billing.
– Ability to work with stakeholders across IS, Finance, and business functions and identify service improvement opportunities proactively.
– Demonstrated ability to collaborate across multifunctional teams to create business value and align diverse needs.
