# Manager, Cloud FinOps Engineer
## About the Role
This role sits within BMS’s Cloud / SRE / Platform organization and focuses on making cloud usage across AWS, Azure, and GCP more efficient, scalable, and governed. It combines cloud engineering with FinOps principles through automation, platform design, and technical controls rather than traditional financial execution.
The position is responsible for building and operating solutions for cost allocation, tagging enforcement, anomaly detection, optimization insights, and reporting. These capabilities are intended to be reliable, scalable, and usable by engineering and application teams.
The role partners closely with SRE, Platform Engineering, Security, Network, Application Owners, Finance, and other stakeholders. Its goal is to turn cloud usage and architecture decisions into actionable guidance and automated controls that improve efficiency and value realization.
## Key Responsibilities
### Cloud Operations and FinOps Engineering
– Analyze cloud cost and usage across AWS, Azure, and GCP, with emphasis on tagging enforcement, anomaly detection, and optimization follow-up.
– Maintain cost observability outputs such as dashboards, scorecards, unit-economics views, and usage trend reporting.
– Investigate cost spikes and anomalies by connecting architecture, utilization, and operational events.
– Identify gaps in cost governance processes and implement technical improvements.
### Platform Enablement and Stakeholder Engagement
– Serve as a technical contact for cloud consumers and application teams.
– Lead recurring cloud consumption and optimization reviews.
– Help teams apply engineering-led FinOps practices within provisioning, deployment, and runtime workflows.
– Provide Finance with reliable cloud cost data, tooling, and automation while ownership remains in IT.
### Optimization and Delivery
– Identify waste and optimization opportunities across compute and database rightsizing, storage tiering and lifecycle policies, Kubernetes and container cost drivers, and data transfer and networking patterns.
– Lead small to medium engineering-driven optimization initiatives with measurable, sustainable impact.
– Support commitment strategies using Savings Plans, Reserved Instances, and CUDs.
– Shift the operating model from reactive cost reduction to continuous, automated optimization.
### Automation, Tooling, and Governance
– Build and maintain Python automation to improve the accuracy, speed, and scale of FinOps operations.
– Develop AWS-based solutions using Lambda, databases, and Step Functions.
– Create and manage CloudFormation templates and support infrastructure-as-code standards.
– Integrate cost controls, tagging validation, and reporting into CI/CD pipelines.
– Use APIs and scripting to automate anomaly reporting, scheduled usage and spend analysis, and billing data ingestion.
– Contribute to auto-remediation frameworks where relevant.
– Apply IAM knowledge to support secure and accountable cloud usage.
– Ensure cost attribution and ownership data is technically enforced, auditable, and traceable.
### Cross-Functional Collaboration
– Work with SRE, Security, Network, Engineering, Product, and Procurement teams on technical cost decisions.
– Represent the FinOps engineering function on cross-functional initiatives.
– Communicate technical and cost-related concepts clearly across engineering, operational, and leadership audiences.
## Required Skills
– Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related technical field.
– 4–5+ years of experience in cloud engineering, platform operations, SRE, FinOps engineering, or cloud operations.
– Strong understanding of cloud platforms and cost drivers across compute, storage, databases, and networking.
– Hands-on Python experience with clean, efficient, maintainable code.
– Experience with AWS services, including Lambda, databases, and Step Functions.
– Experience with CloudFormation.
– Understanding of CI/CD pipeline concepts.
– Strong data and analytics skills, including Advanced Excel, SQL, and cost modeling and analysis.
– Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or QuickSight.
– Working knowledge of GitHub and version control practices.
– Understanding of tagging strategies, cost allocation, and showback/chargeback models.
– Ability to independently scope and deliver moderately complex technical solutions.
– Strong communication and collaboration skills.
## Preferred Skills
– FinOps Certified Practitioner or Analyst certification.
– Experience with cloud billing and cost tools, including AWS Cost Explorer, CUR, Billing Conductor, Budgets, Azure Cost Management, GCP Billing exports, Apptio Cloudability, Flexera, and Finout.
– Experience with Python and React for internal tools or dashboards.
– Understanding of Savings Plans, Reserved Instances, and commitment strategies.
– Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as CloudWatch, Datadog, Prometheus, and Grafana.
– Experience in large enterprise or regulated environments.
– Familiarity with auto-remediation frameworks.

## FinOps Responsibilities
– Perform cloud cost and usage analysis across AWS, Azure, and GCP.

– Embed cost governance into platform standards, CI/CD, and runtime workflows.
